If Kobe displays better overall statistics and takes his team farther in the playoffs than LeBron then you can make a case. But since the MVP votings is based on team records in the regular season, the Lakers will have to win 50+ games to even be considered. Judging by what LeBron accomplished last year (taking his team to the finals) and his team had a better record last season than Kobe's team, I'd say King James is overdue for an MVP award.

Why do you hate Kobe haters so bad. You are no better than we are. Kobe will never win the MVP. He will not accomplish anything better now than he already has which is win a championship. So shut up and stop wasting our time.

Another 'what if Kobe question'. Kobe will never count on the MVP race until he gets his team to winning. And with this Lakers ball club doing minimal (if not nothing at all!) changes they would just end up taking (again) one of the lower seeds in the play-offs and maybe end up taking on Phoenix for the third consecutive time.
As Bill Russell puts it: "Nobody is going to question you when you're winning."

They usually don't give the MVP award to a player on a sixth seed or below. They like to vote for players who help their team excel, not barely slip into the playoffs. Just look at past winners compared to their team's record. So...good luck with that. Maybe he can win another All-Star MVP, since teamwork doesn't matter with that award.

They won't have to say anything, because he won't win it this season. In order for a player to be even considered as a MVP candidate, his team has to win games, and has to be near the top in terms of the team's record. Obviously that won't be happening with Denver getting better and healthier, Dallas hungrier, Spurs (enough said), Rockets loading up; And Lakers don't seem to be better teams than Suns, Jazz, and Warriors either. So unless a blockbuster happens where Kobe actually has a real team to play with, he won't be the MVP this season.

So the Lakers are going to go through their 40 wins or less season as usual and Kobe's going to win MVP? Yeah, good luck with that.

He won't. Reason being he won't even be in the playoffs so there's really no point for him winning the award unless he decides to become a team player and averages a triple double and maybe there would be a small chance that he'd win it.

I see some hattaz, hattaz everywhere we go, hattaz everywhere we go, Kobe is the man you cant deny, hes like MJ cause he believes he can fly. People keep hating cause they aint got the skill he do, but i see of lot of the same hattaz rockin my boy Kobe's b-ball shoes. I aint try to put yal down for hattin on the kid, but hating on him for having a passion for winning is something that mj did. Let me just tell you that there will never be none like mike, but its also true for kobe so you better sit tight. Kobe is a baller will go down in the hall of fame, even if at some points he can cause himself and others pain. Everyone is human and we all make mistakes, so leave my boy alone while he wins gold for the states!!
Kobe MVP 2008, Scoring Champ 2008, MVP 2008 Olympics
