I've just finished reading about a 27 year old woman in NZ being sentenced to 18 months jail for having a sexual relationship with a 14 year old boy. And as an add on they say she also got him hooked on drugs and alcohol. This is pretty much how it is in the West. Why? If it had been a man and a 14 year old girl he would have been labeled a pedophile, had his name put on a register somewhere for the world to see and sentenced to 6 to 12 years, or even more, because it would have been considered rape given the involvement of drugs and alcohol. Can anyone explain to me why women get off so light in these types of cases? Where's the equality before the law? And what about the victim? He hardly rates a mention. Its a funny world we live in.

No one has mentioned the fact she got this kid hooked on drugs and alcohol. Why is that? Is that insignificent?

This was in New Zealand? Is that what you mean by NZ?

If so, then I can't really respond as this is the US forum, but here in the States the sex offender laws apply to both sexes. There have been several high profile cases in Florida, California and Washington, most involving teachers, where women have been convicted and sentenced in the same manner as men. Mary Kay LeTourneau being the most famous example.

As for the 14 year old victim, he hardly rates a mention in the US because he is 14 and we don't want his life to become a permanent circus.

Agreed. We often look at the men as the agressors, not the victims. It is harder to prove that the men were victimized. I agree with an earlier respondent that a teen's libido may well be nearly involuntary and so the attentions, ministrations and manipulations of the seductress is just as much rape as it would be for a man to force himself on a woman. However, most of the time it is believed that the man was a flattered, willing and excited participant. The young man would lose reputation if he admitted that he did not want the sex act and tried to fight the woman off. His peers would think him less of a man and then subject him to humiliating taunting.
Bottom line, no easy answer.

She will have to register as a sex offender, yes.

But this is just a case of another sexist double standard we have in society. Dispicable...

Contrary to what another answerer said about male erections, in the case of young men, sometimes erections are not under his control. Although yes, he probably wanted it to happen.

In society, men are viewed as sex craved fiends and that when I young girl has relations with an older man it's because "he manipulated her weak little girl mind" or something of the sort. Society also thinks that women have better control over their sexual impulses and that just because women are women, that they have an inborn materal instinct with all children so society doesn't like to think of situations like this because it goes against what they think. Again they also will use the defence of "we were in love" which is just another way of saying that her weak female mind couldn't resist the comings on of a young man. Rediculous..

It's stupid. Women want equality in the home and workplace, but want to be treated as if above the law. As a State Trooper, I see women who always act like they don't deserve whatever they're getting. I got slapped once for pulling over a 19 year old girl doing 110 in a 60 on the interstate, she also had a quarter pound of marijuana in her car, along with a few needles. Nothing in them but they were confiscated as paraphernalia. Needless to say she was arrested, charged with felony possession, intent to sell, possesion of paraphernalia, assault on an officer of the law, resisting arrest, and slander (she cussed me out). She went to jail (county) 3-5 based on behavior, no option for parole.

True.

A form of social hypocrisy.

To answer your question - I think the reasons for this is that it is more widely accepted that men are more prone to going after little girls whereas when a woman pursues a young boy, people are not even sure what to think or how to react.

well, sry, but that's just the way it is

laws about rape were designed to protect women, girls, and yes boys...from men

i know it doesn't sound like it makes sense, like it's not right, but...well, that's just how the world works...that's the way human psychology works....

and to be frank, I doubt that the kid considered himself a victim

Reason is a guy needs erection in order to have sex. So in case of women and young boy - he must want it for it to happen ... where as for girl maybe not the case....

it is a double standard, at it's worst. Laws always favor women.
