Mine was the first state to legalize gambling on a state-wide basis. I live in Nevada. But, the bill to do so was not introduced by a gambler. It was a rancher from Winnemuca who only wanted to have Nevada avoid the worst effects of the depression. As far as I know, he never entered a casino in his life. The Nevada law concerning gambling also allows any incorporated city or any county to vote to get rid of it if they want to. So far only Boulder City did so in the early 1970s. You can't gamble there. But, they didn't bother the rest of us.
The casinos you see in the rest of the West are either single venue operations (inside a certain city only) or are on Native American reservations. Personally I'm all for the Native Americans adopting the "new buffalo" as they call it to lift them out of perpetual poverty and away from the well-meaning, but ignorant, arms of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Some tribes are going into the electrical generation business too.
So far no state has duplicated what Nevada did. That is to allow gaming on a statewide basis. Even Atlantic City has set only one record. Every mayor of Atlantic City since legal gambling came in has been indicted and/or convicted.
I like it. I don't gamble. But, everyone who pulls that lever down or throws a chip across a felt table keeps the idea of a state income tax away from my wallet.

California, has them all over. Some are on Indian land, some are not. It's easier now, especially in winter when it is snowing, not to have to get over I-80 or 50 to Tahoe or Reno.
We have one here in our general area Thunder Valley Casino, that is not on a reservation, and just 15 min. away. They are adding a motel and other accommodations to their Casino operations.
There are so many, but I haven't taken the time to count them all. A lot of Seniors can take bus trips to them and make use of the Buffet that they have. They all seem to play the nickel or penny machines. Waste a lot of time, but not a lot of money.

Gambling (especially poker machines) is rife here in Australia. But the good news is, that Russell Crowe, the movie actor and co-owner of one of our rugby league football clubs , has announced that he is going to take the demon machines OUT of his club. Considering that this particular club is one of the largest in the country, it'll be very interesting to see how things go !
A national poll on the subject, said that almost 90% of Australians would like to see the machines removed from all venues. But, lets face it, governments reap in huge taxation profits from gambling.....I can't see them supporting this kind of "unAustralian behaviour" !!

I live in Oklahoma and there is a casino on every corner. Even in convenience stores. It's bad because I know the children do without so their folks can gamble. I'm against so many and so close together!

I think it depends on where you are, I've not seen the big casinos. There may be some boats out on the coast where you can gamble, but I've never been on one. We did get the lottery not to long ago.

All over Australia, and South Africa. And even on the smaller Islands off Africa. We have holidayed on The Comores, Paradise Island, Inyaka Island, before the big Hotelsl/Casino groups discovered them.

Now they have just ruined them.
