Most alternative therapies are unproven, but can "cure" a lot of ailments because the practitioners give you a lot of attention, and that is what people miss in most practitioners of regular medicine. An alternative practioner takes 20 tot 40 minutes to see you, regular docs take 5, at most 15 minutes. You of course know that placebo effect accounts for about 40% of all succesful therapies!
But seriously, only some acupuncture techniques (against asthma, high bloodpressure, pains and aches), and traditional chinese medicine (TCM) herbal remedies (against eczema) has been studied in the strict scientific way (double blind placebo controlled trials) and found to be effective.
Hypnotherapy doesn't have to be alternative, since is has been studied extensively for a lot of complains like irritable bowel syndrome.
Homeopathy has done very little research, it works for hayfever, also Echinea works for having less colds.
All other so called therapies are to be classified as beliefs, not science.

Great question! There are so many therapies that are amazing. Our bodies respond beautifully to whole body wellness to heal the mind, the body, the spirit together in harmony instead of just one small part of the body as "traditional" medicine does.

Each discipline has its pluses, and work so well to that end. I use aromatherapy, reflexology, homeopathy and herbal medicine. I find the synergy of these particular alternative therapies work the best for me.

I've tried then all - virutally - but for me Spiritual Helaing is the most effective.
I am now trained a an NFSH healer and we see amazing results.
Reiki can be good - in some cases.... depending on who is giving the treatment.
Indian Head massage is wonderful but again it really depends on the practitioner, mine is fabulous - well trained and well expereinced and she's a healer too so she takes a holistic approach to the massage session.
Cranial Sacral Therapy has helped me too but againi becasue the practitioner was so experienced ...bottom line the? they ar all good if the treatment is given by a qualified, experienced and sensitive practitioner.
I lways get concerned when I see hairdressers and beauticians getting into all that sort of thing!

I don't really know if you would class them as alternative, but, I take New Era Tissue Salts and have done for quite some time. At the moment I have been juggling them around to promote soft tissue healing and eliminating of excess fluid as I am recovering from a hip and knee replacement which I had on 13th August. I must confess that the wounds healed up brilliantly within 12 days and it impressed my surgeon and nurse so much they are looking into recommending them for patients who do not heal very well. They are a totally natural product, cos, if you took all the fluid out of a human body the end results would be the equivalent of the salts which I am taking! lol:-D

Don't know if they help at all, but aromatherapy and reflexology are lovely. I was a Guinea pig for a friend when she was training in these therapies.

I am a certified physician's assistant (finally, yay!) and if my boss knew i am saying this he'd get mad, but i suffered from hyperthyroidism for over 3 years, tried treatment after treatment (conventional) until the one thing that was left to do was taking radioactive iodine (RAI). I decided to give my body a chance and started 3 alternative treatments.
1. Closely monitored diet and exercise.
2. Reflexology
3. Positive thinking, yoga and music therapies.
Against all odds, they worked. My levels are perfect, my blood pressure, my pulse, hormones, everything is as good as it ever was.
The one i got hooked on? Exercise.

I have used many different natural therapies over the years,.. but the one I have relied on the most is Chinese Medicine, in the forms of accupuncture, chinese herbology and Zen Shiatsu massage (which is a traditional Japanese form that is based on the same meridian knowledge as Chinese medicine) - - Note; do not confuse common shiatsu with Zen Shiatsu which is a true form of shiatsu.

When it comes to accupuncture I want to tell you that the most superior form of Chinese Medicine that exists in the world is that which is known as; CLASSICAL TAOIST CHINESE MEDICINE - ... Much of what is practiced in the world today is a more simplyfied and watered down version of Chinese Medicine that does not work as deeply as the classical form.
