In terms of their undergraduate programs for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and Linguistics?

the best universities in sydney by far are Uni of Sydney and Uni of New South Wales. Macquarie Uni isnt so good with the English, as it tends to specialise in business and accounting, and has a lot of international students. any other university in sydney is a waste of money.
I dont know much about Uni of Adelaide because i live in sydney. [sorry :( ] but it is in the Group of 8, which is the group of best universities in australia http://www.go8.edu.au/

I wouldn't go to either. For those subjects I would go to Sydney or ANU in Canberra. If your only choice is Macquarie or Adelaide then Adelaide is the better university for English and Linguistics. I have First Class Honours in Linguistics from Sydney and I would only consider doing a PhD at Sydney or ANU as they are the top schools in the country.
