I could list most of them, but tonight I will choose Sundown.
He was my mother's favourite, and we listened to him all the time when I was young and older and older still. He played Massey Hall every year and her dream was to go at least once. We got her there, it was wonderful. I can still remember the dreamy look she got in her eyes every time his songs came on the radio. My Mom is gone now, God bless her and Gorden brings her to me everytime I hear his name. Thank you for the question.

I absolutely LOVE Gordon Lightfoot.

My favorite is "Carefree Highway." It's a long story, but I'll try to make it short. I was living in a bad situation already when I got deathly sick, too weak even to change CD's in my player, and I needed to drown out the neighbors' loud, insane, constant rapping and cussing and partying because it wasn't helping me any. I put GL on repeat while I drifted in and out of consciousness, and must have listened to "Carefree Highway" 500 times in a row, I'm not exaggerating. It relaxed me enough where I was able to get my strength up and go home to finish getting well.

When my time comes, I want "Carefree Highway" played at my services. I've made sure my family knows that, and the reason.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Because it is a modern ballad about a real event. I recall the event (I guess that shows you my age, LOL) and I was very touched by the ballad. I'm sure the families of the dead were also very thankful. It is like the old bards used to do...making up songs about real people and sending them on into legend.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Great song, sounded almost like something pirates would sing. it was eerie how much you felt like you were there...Besides, where else can you hear gitche gumee in a song and have it make sense?

I forget the title but the first lines are:

"The perfume that she wore
was from some little store
On the dark side of town
and it lingered on
long after she's gone
I remember it well"

"For Lovin' Me"
I like it because it's not your typical love song.
The narrater is basicly telling his lover you really should have known better than to love me. You got what you deserve.

Gordon Lightfoot was an incredible writter.
