I worked with Aids patients in the early 1980s in the San
Francisco Bay area. At the time it was called "Gay Bowel Disease" because it was so unknown and the only clinical sign the patients had were hemorraghic striations in the anal canal. There is a very quiet little meeting now and then between doctors at UC San Francisco Medical Center and the staff of the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley. Both are looking at the description of leprosy in the Scriptures. It's not a good description of Hansen's Disease, as leprosy is called today. But, it is an excellent word picture of end-stage Karposi's Sarcoma, the rare cancer which afflicts people with HIV infection when their immune systems go bad. Even I don't think that "Dutch" Reagan or "Bambi" Blair go back that far. LOL!

Serious, there was an interesting Doc., made by SBS TV, on the Doctor who invented the African Vaccine in the Congo. He was recruited from Germany after the war, and had a lab, set up in the Congo. He was supposed to be inventing other vaccines, but eventually they interviewed him, and he admitted that he had used infected livers from Monkeys.
An old African man who worked in the lab, told the reporters that about 15 years after he invented this vaccine, AIDS started to appear.

When I was a kid there was this diet candy called AIDS..........little did we know!! It came in chocolate or carmel too!
