The reason these posters were asking about a minus sign is because you dropped one when working out the answer. The correct answer is -3:

4-6(w+2)=10

Add 6(w+2) to both sides:

4 = 10+6(w+2)

Subtract 10 from both sides:

-6 = 6(w+2)

Divide by 6:

-1 = w+2

Subtract 3:

w = -3
