I am finishing a cloak out of cotton velour in a beautiful shade of jade. I love the material. However I was thinking about weatherproofing it and had several recommendations for Nikwax. Has anyone ever used weatherproofing? Did you like it? And do you know if cotton velour can be machine washed (as thats how you weatherproof it)? Thanks!

You *wouldn't* b/c of the material or why? Would it be different if I used polyester velour? If I can't weatherproof it, please let me know WHY b/c you are out at faires all day and can hardly know for sure if a quick shower (or klutzy person) will spring up. I wouldn't be able to run inside and store it in a closet. I thought cotton velour was the same as the velour sweatsuits (and therefore machine washable). Is that wrong?

I wouldn't. It will change the way the fabric feels. You should just not wear it if it's going to rain.
