It gets to be a little uncomfortable at the end of the pregnancy, but it is not dangerous, even while dilated. Actually, sex with orgasm can jump-start labor.
I have found that the most comfortable way for sex during the last few weeks was lying on my side with my husband behind me. I actually went into labor a couple of hours after-wards when I was pregnant with my daughter.

Im also 36 weeks and im 1cm dilated 70% effaced, lost my muscus plug about 2 weeks ago and Im having back cramps, regular cramps, headaches, nauseaa, sharp pains in my legs. I also feel like Im watching the grass grow here. But I guess they come when they're ready. Hang in there. Good news is that we're almost done!

I'm sure! LOL .... if it's uncomfortable, don't do it. Simple as that. If you're one CM dilated already, chances are your body is ripening for delivery, so sex might not be something you want to do right now anyway, unless you want to bring on labor. 37 weeks is considered full term, so you're cool there, and you might want to talk to your doc about the pros and cons of delivering now, especially since you're dilated, and having sex.
But, if it's uncomfortable, that's not how it's supposed to be, right? So stop. You can wait (theoretically) 4 more weeks until you have the baby, right? :-)

Yea, Im 42 weeks and its VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. but it was when I was beginning my 6 month after that we just made love every ONCE IN AWHILE, sometimes we didnt even finish because it hurt so bad. Some say you can have sex when your around ur date to start labor the mens semen stimulates labor SOMETIMES, but hell no, I dont even try. I figure she'll come when shes ready.....

I can imagine it would be because your cervix is so low now. I am only 4 months and it's been a little uncomfortable for me so I can imagine that it is even that much more for you at 36 weeks!

If you are dilated than you will most likely feel some discomfort. If it hurts, don't do it. You can have alternative forms of sex if you get randy. FYI, orgasm stimulates labor.

when you are this far along you can expect sex to be uncomfortable but when you have concerns always talk to your OB/GYN.
also ask your doctor about trying different positions.
