In most states it is as simple as filling out a form and paying a fee. The forms are usually available on line and the fees can be paid by mail or at a local court house.

TIP: read the rules that outline your liability as a notary because you can get in some serious trouble if you do not follow the rules.

How do I obtain a Notary Public commission?

You must take and pass an examination about notary law. You may register for the exam online at www.cps.ca.gov/TakeATest/Notary or call CPS at (916) 263-3520 to receive an exam registration packet.
