I don't know exactly what kind of voice I have...and yes, I'm a girl

When I try to sing, my voice seems to fluctuate a lot. I have a pretty deep voice for a girl...but sometimes it changes and goes a little higher when I am singing, and then goes back down.

Does anyone have ideas?

You might want to check into voice lessons, even just a few to get the basics of the correct way to sing. I took lessons for about 8 yrs. and studied music in college for about 4 yrs. You want to control your breathing from your diaphram, not your throat because you could damage your vocal chords that way. A voice teacher will help you vocalize to help you find your vocal range. This will also help to strengthen your voice, and help you to change from your "head" voice to your "chest" voice. I would explain more, but I would be typing for a very long time. Best bet to find a vocal teacher-go to a local high school or college music department and ask if they know of any good teachers.
