My boyfriend wants to take up a new hobby to pass the time but hasn't been sure of what he wants to do. Can anyone here suggest any cool, fun or interesting hobbies that are good for men other than sports, video games, gambling and porn.

um, that pretty much covered it unless you want to suggest stamp collecting.

Suggest that he spend a couple hours in the magazine dept. of a bookstore, and see if anything looks interesting to him. There are magazines on just about everything.

Just a comment for what it's worth: Those whose lives revolve around things like sports, video games, gambling and porn generally aren't inclined to find more productive pastimes, and may not appreciate efforts to push them in that direction.

First, he might want to check out my answer in this previous thread to get some ideas about what he might actually be interested in as a hobby:

And lots of guys are into polymer clay ...some only make monsters and other figures, but some make structures, Halloween/xmas/etc. decorations, or boxes/bowls, or just all kinds of things with it... including jewelry for their girlfriends . There are all kinds of techniques to explore too that appeal to men (or anyone).
Have him check out my site if you think he might be interested in any of that:
http://glassattic.com/polymer/contents.htm
(...have him scroll all the way down to browse the topics... then when he finds something he'd like to investigate, click on the name of its page from inside the alphabetical navigation bar on the left side to go to it...)

P.S. This page at the site also has "gift" ideas for men, so he might want to peruse those for ideas too:

(... click on MEN'S...)

He could try numismatics (coin collecting). It is largely dominated by men. Although I really would like to see a few more women in the hobby.

How about painting model cars or airplanes. Even making model airplanes that can fly. It's a lot harder than it sounds because a model airplane has to be exactly like a regular one to fly. Other things could be coin collecting (you know we have all those state quarters comeing out and the new nickles), and woodwork (good way to make extra cash).

If your boyfriend likes technology then have him try Ham Radio. It is a hobby dominated by males.

Shooting sports are loads of fun too.

Yea....Sports and Porn are the main hobbies for men.

Only other thing I can think of is model building - they have cars, plains and many other things. I think they even have trains.
