It still exists but is now referred to as "dance music". I thought the backlash against disco music in the late 1970s was stupid because of the true motives behind it. It wasn't because of the music itself. It was because of the gay elements of disco music. Many homophobic people couldn't stand that so they started organizing "Disco Sucks" rallies and encouraging people to throw away or burn their disco records and tapes.

It is. People just got embarrassed about admitting it, so they relabeled it "Dance music." And isn't that what disco was all about in the first place...
