Do you think they might try and have a go at me for wearing something "offensive" or something? Only a few people saw it I think, but it IS bright pink so it's kinda noticable...
I'd prefer to not have to say "Actually I'm gay so it's ok" to my boss and give her that glazed look...

I kinda feel the irony of the badge is lost on some people...

Dude, how would you feel if your boss wore a badge to work saying, "I got laid today".

Some might find using the term "gay" as derogartory to be offensive. Using it in this way is either ok or not ok and that is the question.

Whether or not you are gay has nothing to do with it. It's like any ephithet, it should or should not be used in a derogatory way in public by anyone.

So, would you be ok with people using the word "gay" to describe a broken down FAX machine? Or being left out of a lunch group ("it's so gay that they didn't invite me".)

I understand the reasoning and the humor (read: irony) behind the saying 'homophobia is gay'.

But I don't think that the tendency of some people to refer to something that is undesirable, bad, uncool, etc. as 'gay' should be encouraged. I would find the pin offensive, and Archie Bunker would have a hard time offending me.

Well its inappropriate in the work place ,
and if you wanted everyone to KNOW your Gay a better more professional way would have been to whisper it to the office big mouth.

Now instead of just letting them know your gay,
they are debating the possible insult you are suggesting they are Homophobic ect ect ect.

and the Christians are gathering to condemn you,

You shouldn't have done something like this to isolate your self.

there was a better way.

Now all you can do is let the chips fall where they may.

Good luck

Meg

It all depends on where you work. In my office, that would've gone over about as well as a lead balloon, even on "Casual Friday". It's best to save stuff like that for after-work.

And to the poster with the "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy" shirt? I have one, too, but I don't wear it to work...at least not exactly. Our work group goes away for "team-building" sessions, so when we go out for dinner and drinks afterward and it's very informal, THAT'S when I wear it. People pretty much get a kick out of it (and yes, they know I'm partnered.)

The workplace really isn't the proper forum for such attire. There are many issues I agree with but wouldn't wear a badge about them to work.

I live in California. If you wore that into an office here, you'd be asked to remove it. Some would deem it offensive and/or disruptive and for that reason, you'd have to remove it.

I've managed people before and had management training. I'd recommend you not wear that to work. Save it for when you get off work. Wear it anywhere else you want, but not to work.

Of course it's wrong; you need at least 15 pieces of flare.

It really depends on the type of environment in which you work and if the company has a strict standard for appearance (i.e., prohibiting displays of political statements, etc.).
