What is the longest gestation period recorded of any lifeform living on this planet? I'm not thinking of the African Elephant, but of some small ocean fish, I've heard about it earlier...
Possible, that its only the second longest period, but does anyone know?

Fish? No way. The longest know gestation is for the Alpine black salamander, about 38 months. The record for a human is 22 months.

For mammals it is the elephant at around 660 days.

They do not have an exact number since they are still learning about it, but they guess that the Basking Shark is about 3.5 years. Also the spiny dogfish is about two years too.

Not sure about amphibians.
