Hello, does anyone know a native american (or other ethinic group) myth that shows how that group had an environmental concern? Maybe a tale of somebody that chopped too many trees or something like that.

I searched the net but basically its myths about creating stuff out of nowere or unrelated teachings.... any clue?

thanks for the link, I had been there before and didn't find what I was looking for.

I said I wasn't looking for myths that say some entity created things out of nowhere.

The thing is I am writing an essay about environmental susteinability, and would like to tell the myth in the introduction, making a parallel with the increased awareness in our society. Something like " this culture showed an understanding of the need to respect nature, an understanding that only recently started increasing in our society..."

Do you know any myth I can plug in? :-D

I'm sure each tribe had their own myths but this one will help get you started.

answer: starring for other Native American contacts. Another answer is correct - there are many creation stories among many, many tribes. Narrow your focus and begin gathering stories from there. And ignore the nonsense about the "Book" of Ether - Mormon nonsense has no basis and NO connection with Native Americans.

most of the origin-stories I've come across are about a cooperative building of the world between one or more humans and animals, who count as other people.

I'd go to the library rather than rely on this site.

aren't myths "created out of nowhere"? myths are what is believed by people, and if that is what your looking for, i think that is all you'll find.
