We have an older home and the bathroom is tiled and I hate it. Its really old and I dont want the hassel of taking it out. It goes halfway up the bathroom wall, can this be painted and if it can, will it need to be done every year?

You have a few options. Lowes sells the special paint for tile. They do not sell the muratic acid that you will need to properly prep the surface. You will have to call around and find that. Follow the directions carefully. They best application is to spray it on or you are likely to get brush streaks. You can also have a professional to come in a refinish it for you. It is a bit pricey and you could almost retile for the cost of it. Plus to that is that it will only take them 1 day where it will take you 6 or 7days. Also, it will look better if they do it. No, it won't have to be redone every year. I think it lasts 10 or so. It will have a hard enamel surface just like it did before.

Hi...this is so simple..you have 2 choices and this is the one i would go with in my professional opinion, call some companies in your local area and ask them how much do they charge to re saram a bathroom, basically that is painting over your existing tile, but it's done professionally and will look OUTSTANDING !!! or you can go to Lowe's and buy the paint to go over your tile...it's very simple....It's found in the paint department and is called Tub-n-Tile this way is more economical but for that real professional look i would opt for having it done....my mom had her whole bathroom done, it was pink and blue and the tub was blue and the toilet....she bought a new toilet but had all the tiles painted white and the tub...it looked great !!!!!! oh and NO it does not have to be done every year...

Got to go with the you probably won't be happy with it. Re tiling is not a difficult as you might think. And taking the old tile off is great for stress relief..... If you are really wanting to keep the tile. There is another option. If prepped properly you could plaster and texture for an interesting effect.... I would have to still saying just take down the old stuff. You will be happy with what you will accomplish.

For a paint to last on tile, it should be an one part epoxy. Top Secret Coatings has a One Part Epoxy that comes in over 200 tiles and looks beautiful on bathtubs and tiles. It is water proof, won't peel, scratch, or come off.

The best news of all you won't need to repaint in again!

If the tile is ceramic, I seriously doubt if the paint would stick to it. Perhaps you could rough it up somewhat with sandpaper to get better adhesion but I very much doubt whether it would look worth a hoot. Some older homes - circa 1955 - 1959 - had aluminum tile installed. If your tile is this kind then chances are you would have better luck with paint adhesion - after thoroughly sanding, of course.

I've never painted tile and, frankly, it doesn't sound like a very good idea to me.

once you paint tile, you are left with something that looks so tacky you will go through the expence and hassle of removing it and replacing it with decent tile.

paint it any color you want..if people aren't too messy, the paint job will last a few years. (if you want to go back to the old color, a razor blade scraper will take the paint right off)

With no offense meant to YOU,,,or any who answer, and after installing Multiple thousands of sq. ft. of tile and applying multiple thousands of gallons of paint (NEVER TOGETHER) my respectful answer is "NO"

To re-state that; I answer many questions "CAN I?" My standard answer is "Certainly!" I add to that,,,"Will you be satisfied?...Doubtfully."
