It is not how you appear in your own eyes that is important. It is how you are perceived by others. Real objectivity is well nigh impossible for any human being. It is quite impossible to see ourselves as others see us.
If you can say truthfully at the end of your days, that you did no harm and you did some good, that is about as much as it is reasonable to wish for. If others can say as much about you, rest content.

Perfection is hard to achieve some call unattainable... But its the work ethic that we really get out of the situation. Sure we will have problems in our lives but that shouldn't stop you from being happy. "happiness means looking beyond the imperfections." Instead of striving for perfection you should strive for happiness....For the reward is far greater.

depends on your personality. are you a glass-half-full or a glass-half-empty type? to the first perfect is doing the best you can under the circumstance and living lovingly. to the second it is a much harder struggle. all of your dominoes must fall in a row. it must all be perfect. the right friends, the right job, the right spouse, ect. there is no end to the imperfections they see and they end up both miserable and alone.

Perfection is a dangerous place to be. A combination of pride, arrogance lead to isolation, loneliness and the inability to connect with others. After all, if we are perfect and few others are, our opportunities to connect with others are affected.
Knowing several perfectionists, perfection is never a goal in and of itself. It is usually connected to something else. Being perfect to secure approval, affection, love and a variety of others goals often underly the desire to become perfect.
I've never cared. I am imperfect. Anyone who takes issue with me being an imperfect being, well, that is there problem. Most notably, I usually let people know that I have no desire to live up to their expectations of perfection.

There's no such thing as perfection...
...Even the Ancient Greeks said that the quest for perfection is ongoing.
...Also, so did the Zen masters.
...And in the Bible, it says, "By grace alone are ye saved." (which means, no matter how hard you try, you can't save yourself).
Those who have become "perfect in [their own] eyes" as you said are those who are so arrogant that they've come to believe their own lies.
