yes, but the U.S. is one of the few countries that enforces the "never hit a woman policy" compared with 100's of other places where it's part of everyday life. Most of those countries have women who "respect" their men, don't work and take care of the kids/house/food only. "You can taunt a lion in a cage but you better run once it's opened". So, ya it gives us more reassurance to say what we want, cuz we can. But it's all about respect...from both sides. I'm not saying it's right, but I'm not saying it's wrong. It gives us a "license" but no advantage cuz it keeps us on the same level as guys.

While I do oppose violence in any form, including violence against women, I must say that yes, there are some women who have taken unfair advantage of domestic violence laws.
I had a client who was accused of Assault on a Female (I'm an attorney). In North Carolina, it is a worse offense if the assault is on a female by a male.
Anyway, what he said was that he picked up this girl at a party and brought her home and she spent the night there. He hadn't ever seen her before. The next morning, she called the police and said that he hit her. The police come out and take him to jail, where he is held without bond for 2 days (like many places, this is standard procedure here).
After a couple days, he bonded out and found out that she had cleaned him out- took off with his truck and had pawned whatever she could find of value. His carpentry tools were sold, so it was hard for him to even work.
Of course, she didn't show up in court, so it was dropped. There are female drug addicts who do this sort of thing to get some money for drugs. They will lie or do whatever they have to to get some money for drugs.
Let that be a lesson for you guys. Don't do a one-night stand with a woman you don't know.
I think the problem is that we want the legal system to solve every problem and it can't. Often the legal system creates as many problems as it solves. We should look beyond the legal system for solutions.

There was this girl in my high school that would annoy the hell out of a lot of people (usually people she had a crush on). She kept slapping one of my male friends when we were on the bus for a field trip. After she hit him 3 times he said he would slap her if she hit him again. So, she did it again and he slapped her on the arm HARD. It was the funniest thing to happen that day because she got super pissed off and tried to get him in trouble. It didn't work because he warned her beforehand and she was the one that started the whole thing anyways.
Anyways, to get on topic. I think that some women abuse this by assuming that all guys will uphold this rule. One day it will come back and bite them hard though, so I hope they don't continue abusing it.
I think women don't have an advantage because of that, but then again I've never really thought of the possible advantages from this policy.

"Never hitting a woman" is not a policy per se, however I would feel sick with myself for hitting a woman. Number 1, it doesn't solve anything, number 2 women tend to be weaker, and if that were the case I would be abusing a position of power.
I don't think women abuse this power, because like I said hitting them won't solve a problem. You might get your way, but it will damage her over time and eventually backfire.
I have to agree with DumDum, we men mostly don't moderate our speech. If we're provoking a fight with another man, it's for a reason, and it's probably going down. Still, when men fight we do tend to respect each other afterwards, and there are limitations. When women fight, it seems like it's to the death!

I have always considered the term "never hit a lady" Ladies should be courteous as should gentlemen. If a woman is mouthing off they are certainly not being a lady and should be reprimanded as soundly as if it was a man mouthing off. So in answer to your question yes, women definitely abuse this policy.

Nobody should hit anybody just for being annoying, and such an action can land you in jail regardless of whether you're a woman or not. And I can guarantee you that if you're a woman and you mouth off to the wrong woman in the wrong place, you're quite likely to get hit and your gender won't protect you there.

If I were a guy and a woman mouthed off to me thinking she just could because she is female and it would be bad on my part and I would get in trouble legally, I'd stilll hit the b itch, to teach her to learn not to play with fire, or she'll get burned-ahahahahaha! HA! Also, women want equality, this means if a guy is hit by a woman, she should get the crap smacked out of her too-as there will be no double standard. A lot of women are stupid! btiches

It's distressing to see from the answers here how many people believe that men should enjoy an unfettered license to hit women for saying something they don't like. I didn't realize the Taliban had so many friends in the West.
No one should hit anyone, except in self-defense -- and then, only to the extent necessary to avert harm to oneself. It is both illegal and immoral for anyone to use violence for purposes of punishment or retaliation.

I don't think anyone is limited to mouthing off. There is nothing a woman can say to man that justifies him hitting her.
However I do think they do abuse the "never hit a woman" idea to hard when it comes to spitting, hitting, and stracting a man. A woman can go crazy on a guy to the point of drawing blood but the second he does something to her in self defense 'how could you! I'm a woman!!!!"
