This book shows how personal freedoms are taken away by the government and what happens. True scifi. I see this book being revelant in today's political discussions about personal freedoms being erroded. Not some patriot act mumbo jumbo that I don't see in my day to day life. Can you be honest here?

Orwell may have miscalculated the year but the concept seems more real than ever before. I did read it 40 some years ago. Then we thought it was fiction. Now, I'm not so sure.

I accept as true with your assessment--smart and depressing. i think of lots of people who had examine (or who a minimum of knew of) the e book properly till now the 12 months 1984 have been relieved whilst it got here and went and there became nonetheless no huge Brother, yet recent advancements interior the portion of "nationwide; protection" make one ask your self no remember if Orwell became only too early in his predictions! So, no, i don't think of you missed lots, yet you may get a splash greater out of it in case you examine some thing approximately Orwell himself.

Some of the Orwellian things are happeneing now, but I'm more afraid of international corporations doing the same things, and using International Corporate Law to overrule any country's (even America's) national laws.

I've read the book. Sorry, I don't see it happening.

Now if I was some Islamic enemy combatant, yes, the US has certainly taken away my personal freedoms. If I'm in communications with suspected terrorists, yes, my freedoms have been eroded.

However the gov't really has no interest in listening in on my conversation with my Aunty Betty and her peach cobbler recipe.

People want to talk about "gay rights" now, imagine if you had the government match you up with your "partner" which was for procreation purposes only and they watched you will you did it. There would be no gay rights.

Of course among many other things.

Yes I have and your observations are astute. Also "Animal Farm" by Orwell also has commonalities with what is and has been happening in the last several years.
