it's just some abnormal cell formations. They range from low risk cells to high risk cells (cancerous or otherwise). Don't get freaked out about, generally it's something that goes away on it's own but you're doctor will likely want to keep a close eye on it in case there are any major cell changes. When i first had abnormal results I had to go for a pap every 6 months for a while until they felt everything was ok again. You should have a pap done once a year at least, it's your sexual health and it's important!
IT DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE STDs or HPV!! If that were the case the doc would have told you right away. Your doc will explain everything.

Please, please understand that having HPV doesn't mean you have cancer. The chances are really very small. When I had an abnormal pap years ago I freaked... I didn't tell anyone because I was sure it was cancer and I wanted to 'morn' myself for a bit. When I finally broke down and told my mother it turned out both she and my aunt had the same problem... with *NO* cancer ever showing up. Back when I had this the proceedures were different... I don't know if they ever really did a full out 'biopsy'... they just scraped some cells which they tested and found to be 'precancerous' (I'm guessing that equals HPV... I know it was HPV and so I'm guessing that is what they meant by this term). Then they did a 'freezing treatment' that is no longer done and had me get more frequent paps for the next year or two. It never returned at all and it has been over 10 yrs. Feel free to email if you think chatting more might help... but really that was the end of the story for me and from what I hear that is *very often* the case. :) Hope that helps!

They most likely will just have to take more cells from your cervix. I had an abnormal pap once and the doctor told me the results of the pap were inconclusive and that's why I had to go back and get more cells taken. They will probably use a different cell scraping tool, which I thought was a bit more painful, but everything will be fine. They also might have you start taking some folic acid pills. Hope everything turns out ok!

It means that you need to get a repeat pap smear. Most likely, it isn't anything to worry about. I think sometimes the labs just mess up.
I've had abnormal paps before and had the repeat pap and it came back normal.
I didn't have an STD.
I wouldn't freak out about this or jump to any conclusions. It's VERY COMMON to have an abnormal pap.
Good luck!!!

I have also had a abnormal pap and I have never had an STD but I was just getting off or just starting my period, so I had to go back 6 months later and I was fine.

Were you sick around the time you had the pap? I had a bladder infection right before my pap and had abnormal results. It's pretty common. I would also get checked for STD's.

Most likely you have HPV. The most common STD out there.
Your next visit they will do another type of exam where they snip off a piece of your cervix and send it to the lab. After that, you will have another exam called a colposcopy where they will freeze your cervix to rid of the pre-cancerous cells.
Do some research and be sure you always go for your annual pap. Best of luck.

could be the test was faulty, they will probably repeat the pap smear. Or possibly you could have an STD. If they did not find cancer cells, that is good news.

It most likely means you have HPV. Your partner will have to get treated as well.
Use condoms, for the sake of your partner as well as yourself.
