Should I use a comma before the word because (which is used two times in this sentence) ?

I like sunsets because I paint them in art classes, and I like elephants because they are my favorite animal.

No comma either time.

Someone mentioned that a comma separates two independent clauses; that is incorrect. An independent clause is a clause that can stand alone as a sentence. Using a comma to separate two independent clauses would create a comma splice.

you would be best off making two sentences:

I like sunsets because i paint them in art classes. I also like elephants because they are my favorite animal.

but the sentence is correct the way you put it, it's just an awkward sentence with the appearance of being a run-on sentence, but it isn't

I like sunsets, because I paint them in art classes, and I like elephants, because they are my favorite animal.

Commas should be used to separate independent clauses, but perhaps you should think about re-writing this sentence (it's kind of long and almost a run-on).

Example: I like to paint sunsets in art class. Elephants are my favorite animals.

You don't even need the comma after classes. "And" works as the comma.

Also, just so you know. Both reasons why you like those things are examples of circular reasoning.

What you have is fine, you are making two statements in one sentence.
