From the reference link.... There are millions of such particles colliding with the atmosphere every day (I mean day and night). But since you can only see them at night, and you can only look at a small part of the sky at once, when stargazing you can expect to see a shooting star every 10 to 15 minutes.

So yes there was a meteor last night. As far as one hitting Earth, probably. As far as one hitting Earth and getting located, it might be in a news article somewhere. There is no site that keeps track of individual meteors though. There are too many.

There are Meteors every night, some more than others. It's also not unusual to see a satellite or space junk re-enter the atmosphere. They are spectacular sometimes, and often mistaken for "UFO's"

There was a dandy meteor over the weekend. Check out the links!

A good site for satellites is http://heavens-above.com

You didn't state where you were but the North American Meteor Network would be a good place to look. http://www.namnmeteors.org/

A big one? ...not that I know of. But, there is constantly hundreds of meteorites that hit our planet every day, most burn up in the atmosphere before they reach the ground.
