The most honest answer would be that someone else in the race is more attractive as a candidate. Certainly there are many people who will answer this with negatives or "electability" but the fact is that the only reason not to vote for someone is that you want to vote for someone else more.

If you vote "against" someone you are still picking the person you like better even if that is faint praise.

Specifically both Thompson and Obama have thin platforms and have not yet shown that they are truly engaged in the debate. Both have incredible promise but the world is littered with individuals of great promise and thin performance. Some people will choose to go with a proven track record of accomplishments rather than the potential to do more than that.

Barrack Obama seems to double talk a lot and is a democrat. I cannot picture him leading our country at all.
Fred Thompson is conservative, speaks clear and plain. He has some morals, is pro life and would make a great president.
Fred Thompson has my vote!

I can only speak to Thompson, he has a reputation for being lazy and is already proving it in the way he's campaigning, he lacks foriegn policy knowledge and isn't even very bright on domestic issues, he was clueless that there are potential oil reserves in the everglades, so 3 strikes and you're out

Obama... I might vote for him but I probably wouldn't because he does not seem prepared for this office (neither did Bush and see what we have now).

Thompson because he was a mediocre senator... and he worked for lobbying groups and it kind of pisses me off that there are people that are excited by him just because he speaks slow and with a Southern accident (like THAT automatically makes him socially conservative?????).. He's an okay actor and that's about all there is with him.

We really need to be smarter about our candidates. Just because one of them might watch NASCAR doesn't mean we should elect him.

Neither one has the experience I'd care for in the White House. Then again the current president was only Governor of Texas but compared to the others jeshhh Never seem to get those that know what to do and how to do it running for office!

Barrack is too inexperienced. Fred is a conservative. Between the two, I'd vote for Fred.

I took a quiz that helped you figure out who you were in line with. Turns out Thompson and I don't disagree on anything....that's what the quiz said. Personally, I don't know enough about him yet.

Barrack Obama - I think he may have a serpentine tongue. Seductive speech, destructive cause.

I wouldn't vote for Obama. He said that for him there's no law over the law of god. I wouldn't support a president who ignores the Constitution like that.

Actually i like Mike Huckabee and he's further down in poling then either of them... I don't base my choice on what the poles say, I chose on how much I agree with what the candidate's positions are.
