I would have to say that it helps them have momentum but in reality the only team that has an advantage is the team that has the freshest pitching staff. A pitching staff is what makes the difference in the playoffs not your regular season record. That is why the Wild Card teams have done so well, they are usually pitching at the top of their game to get into the playoffs and keep rolling on through the playoffs.

regular season numbers are meaningless if you noticed how many wild card teams have won the world series. as far as the yankees having an advantage, i would have to say yes. if you compare the yankees lineup to any team, they are the ones who would be favored. however, winning the playoffs is all about a team getting hot and executing plays down the crucial stretch. the angels are very good at playing that style which is why they always give the yankees a hard time.

One thing...In the Post season, anyone can beat anyone as long as your team is playing hot. Yanks have alot of confidence right now and are playing at the level they are expected to. They are leading in just about every A.L. category since the All-Star break. They can beat the Indians and Red Sox. Angels seem to have their number, but one thing is certain. Their starting pitching rotation has no Kevin Brown's, Jared Wright or Randy Johnson's in there. Wang, Petite and Clemens will be tough to beat.

the clarification at the back of it is with the help of the fact MLB, in comparison to various the different activities, have each and each team taking part in 162 video games a season. taking part in by way of an entire season like it is tiring, i will think of. in my opinion, 162 video games would desire to basically adequate to be sure who the greater proper communities. to no longer point out, An MLB season in lots of situations leads to previous due September (that's fall). If MLB strengthen playoff communities to sixteen, then the international series probably does no longer start up till previous due November on the earliest the place snow storms are guaranteed to take place. remember that communities want relax days and basically some television stations are prepared to broadcast a definite quantity of video games at a time in step with day because of the fact they have their own oftentimes scheduled programming. So i think of it is terrific that MLB stay the way that it is now, at 8 communities for the playoffs. you does no longer choose baseball season interferring with some components of the basketball and hockey season, might you? did no longer think of so.

No one has an advantage over anyone in the playoffs...anyone can win...the regular season means nothing as soon as the post-season starts. The only advantage the Yankees will have going into October is momentum and that can be taken away in an instant.

In the regular season, when you lose a game or have a bad record...

But in the playoffs, the most minor mistakes can destroy and kick a team out.

So my answer to you question... NO. The playoffs is NOT regular season so you cannot compare stats when your in the playoffs. The only stats that matter is the W/L stats so that teams can play eachother.

When your in the playoffs, every team is now... 0-0 and every single stat is now zip, zip, zip, zip, zip.

Meaningless. Last year the Twins were the hottest team in the league heading into the postseason and got swept. The Tigers and Cardinals who stumbled down the stretch both met in the world series.

I think all the numbers go out the window including how well they did against the other team all year. That one is only half way out the window like Indians fans we are aware we didn't do well against Boston or ny and were .500 against LAA, but are also aware we are playing completely different than we were when we played those teams.

I think it's anyones game once they get to the playoffs

Those numbers are meaningless. Anything can happen in a short series especially the ALDS it only 5 games. All a team has to do is get hot at that time and theyre in the ALCS.

As a fan, I feel more confident in my team when they are carrying winning momentum into the playoffs, but most fans realize that a good starting pitcher is all it takes to win a playoff game. No advantage.
