I really don't know the answer to this question, but what a coincidence you asked this question. We're at the beach this week and just said a metal detector might be interesting to have. We've seen several people with on. You never know what you'll find until you search.

There are an awful lot metal detectorists in the U.S. I have no idea how many, but it must be in the millions or close too it. A lot of rare colonial coins have been found by them this year.
