and why are there such big price differences by area?

Where I live at home (South East England) it's over £6 for an adult (£7 evenings and weekends) and £5 for students. But in Northern Ireland where I go to uni my local cinema charges £5 for a adult at evenings and weekends, £3.50 during the day, £3.75 for a student and they have a special cheap day where all tickets are £2.50 all day.

It seems everytime I go home the prices have increased some more so I don't bother going to the cinema at home!

It costs a lot of money for the cineams to get the movies and to show them, especially if only a few people buy tickets.

The Cinemas claim that falling audience numbers mean they have no choice but to put prices up in order to make a profit.

They fail to see that increased ticket prices are the main reason for falling audience figures. The cost, especially for large groups, is the most common reason for people choosing NOT to go to the cinema but to wait for films to be released on DVD.

People don't queue round block because it is National Cinema Day, it's the £1 tickets that they like!

The prices are ridiculous now, and when you add the price of the popcorn and drinks, (which also keep increasing in price) it ends up costing a fortune, i rarely go to the cinema now!

I don't know but it really annoys me...for me to go to the cinema it's £7.20. I can remember when it was £3.10 and that wasn't that long ago.
This is in Oxford.
