Does your question indicate a religious background?

Any sensible person knows that every animal serves the same purpose - to survive. They're not here for our benefit.

Just be glad humans have the purpose of supplying some of the blood mosquitos need in their diet you anthrocentric so-and-so.

That is the same as asking if a mountain has a purpose. Mosquitoes are part of many food chains, They can transmit disease which you could argue has the purpose of reducing human over-population,

Food for larger insects and other animals...., and actually not many people think of this, because it is not a purpose that's beneficial to mankind, but a mosquito serves as a specific vector for 4 species of parasites called Plasmodiums.
Plasmodium falciparum
Plasmodium ovale
Plasmodium vivax
Plasmodium malariae
So, even tho it's not beneficial to us, the mosquito is necessary for the lifecycle of plasmodia.

They are food to alot of animals actually. heh. for one, there are lots of fish that eat their larvae, and it is essential in the bat diet and birds eat them as well. as for them being really overpopulated, that is just a problem youll have to deal with.

small spiders eat them as well, but none of the large spiders seem to care unless they havent caught anything in a while.
=)
they are food though.
