Why not? It's your hard earned money and you can do with it what you like. I have buy to let properties - no one gave me a deposit for them, I had to re-mortgage my own home to do it. I took the risk and if it all goes sad, there's only me to get me out of it. It is my pension for the future - I am self employed and dont have a company pension to fall back on. I dont fritter my money away on smoking, drinking or gambling - I'm entitled to do with it what I want. Buy to let....... not an easy option, but it's a chance I'm prepared to take. Ethics have sod all to do with it..... it's security in my later years.

Of course - it's a business venture. If you take out a mortgage, it is up to you what you wish to do with it. Some people don't want the commitment of a morgage and are more than happy to rent - it's not as if you are forcing people to basically pay your mortgage for you! :-)
