I am wondering about fertilizer and if they require full sunlight or shade. Also how much watering. They were looking kind of bad for a day or 2 after I worked long hours away from home and forgot to water them. They were dried out...So, I gave them a good bit of water yesterday and they already look better. I re potted them this morning in bigger pots.
Now how do I keep them pretty and blooiming?

You really should try to plant your mums outdoors in well-drained soil that has a lot of organic matter.

They like it sunny & should receive at least a half-day of sun.

Mums planted outdoors in the fall do not need any fertilizer until they begin to grow the following spring. In northern areas, mums often struggle to survive through the winter.

To help your mum’s chances of survival, try the following tips:
Keep soil moist as winter approaches.
There is no need to prune back plants until the following spring except in warmer climates where plants are likely to continue growing though the winter.

Mulch plants after the ground begins to freeze, not before, with leaves, straw, peat moss or other organic matter.
In the spring, remove any old mum stems and gradually remove mulch.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

You have done all you can for now. Don't fertilize them or they will go into shock after your re-potted them. They will die out for the winter, just group them together and cover them with something such as a tarp to keep the roots form freezing during the winter. The best thing to do is move them into a workshop or garage out of the winter weather. Next spring you can start a watering and fertilizer schedule. But don't forget to water them often.

If they do die on you before the Fall is over, it is the lack of water that you forgot to do.

I don't know anything about plants. All I know is they need water and sunlight to grow. Fertilizer also helps. They say if you talk to your plants, that will make them grow. Good luck, Susan.
