I think it's considered unprofessional to show emotional reaction to a story. They are just supposed to present the facts unless they are doing an opinion piece. If they got emotionally involved with all the tragedies they deal with it would be impossible to do their job. They would end up going insane.
As for the news being bad, there is one quote I heard that you should keep in mind - "The News only reports about a house that is burning". Not about the millions of houses not burning.
I know several people who were depressed for months because of Scott and Lacy Peterson and then for months more because of that girl who went missing in Aruba. They would tune in every night to feed their depression. We don't know those people and their tragedy isn't part of our lives unless we let the news make it part of our lives. I quit watching the news years ago. If you keep watching, just try to remember that one girl, her family and her friends had a tragedy in Aruba, but millions of people went on vacations and had a great time with no misfortunes worth reporting on the news.

Actually, they are, but not directly on-camera. It's all about how the story is told. If you look at the way it is presented carefully, you'll get an idea on the emotions involved.

In other words, if you see a story that makes you feel a little weepy, it's a good bet the reporter feels the same way. You just don't show it outwardly.

They report the same things everyday. They cannot react to every story they did. Our news reporters should be focused on better stories.

This reminds me of Ellen Degeneres joke she did on her show about reporters and the different stories they do in a few minutes. It was funny.

News reporters who show emotion are not news reporters for long, also considered very unprofessional to add what is called "commentary" and comment on any reports outside of a sterile conversation, Yeah, it bugs me too

Newscasters are not supposed to taint the story they are reporting in any way. They are supposed to be as emotionless as a newspaper....you're supposed to form your own ideas about what you're hearing. As for no good news...well, it just doesn't sell. As the song says, "Give us dirty laundry".
