I see desire and instinct as more of a source for motivation rather than just hope. Hope, in my view, is merely longing for something but leaving that something to chance, rather than one arbitrarily taking the initiative to set things in motion that would lead to a preferable outcome.

Without some expectation of a desired result there can be no motivation to act towards the future, it would seem. But every act in the present is an act toward the future, the question is whether or not one is considering the future in every act they commit. So in a sense a motivational speaker is simply reminding the listener of that fact and then, presumably convincing them of a positive outcome through sheer exuberance and/or evidence etc. I don't know but it may be the other way around: Motivation to act towards the future results in hope for the future.
You have an interesting way of posing questions.

I don`t think so. Motivation is the result of rational deliberation and self confidence. A person is not motivated to succeed by Hope. People think about realistic steps that he or she can take to reach their desired goal. If the goal is plausible and the person has the self confidence to take the required steps, then that person becomes motivated.
Hope is simply a subjective desire, a want. It is true that our desires and beliefs cause us to act in certain ways. However, simply having hope is not enough for us to become motivated.
The reason why motivational speakers produce results, is not because of hope.
"You can do this" "You can do that"
You can - Raises peoples self confidence. They believe I can do it!
Do This/That - Suggest that the outcome is plausible.
If people simply relied on hope to motivate them, well then ...... Perhaps motivational speakers would say "Pray for it to happen and it will" or "You have just got to believe, and it will happen" As if no action is needed to reach the goal.

Motivation is comes from hope and hope depends on the person's point of view.
If you see the glass half-full all the time, you're a positive person always full of hope but if you see it half-empty most of the time, your gonna be a gloomy negative person.
Motivational speakers only make people realize that the glass is half-full most of the time for the people who failed to realize it.

No, I don;t think so. Hope, in my opinion is a lonely feeling in ones own thoughts. Hope IS positive however, in that it shows an optimistic outlook but it isn't the catalyst that motivates people. Desire is the motivational means, and knowing the means in which to accomplish that desire are the building blocks that make that hope and desire possible.

Motivation is hope. It's a gravitational pull towards the uncertain. We pursue the uncertain, much like our ape ancestors did in search of food, as they migrated into europe and asia.

The only real hope is knowing that our life is happening now not in the future.

Yes. I believe it's hope that can get you through anything. Hope pushes me to want to be a better person and grow up.
