A Parrot is a HUGE responsibility!!! Have you actually read some "care" books??? If not... DO SO.. the Library can help you there. Parrots are very demanding, they are like having 2-yr old children who never grow up... and they can live to 50-+ years!! Owners have to sometimes make provisions in their WILLS for their parrots! They can be noisy, and even aggressive.
EATEN BY THE CAT??? HAHAHAHAAH!!! That's is hardly likely! Rather, I'd fear for my CAT than the bird!
PLEASE!!! You are VERY SMART to be having doubts now... BEFORE getting the parrot. There are many parrot-rescue organizations and you can search online for them.... contact them and ask them about what is in store for you. I'm sure they don't want you to get involved if it will overwhelm you...l and with 11 dogs, 5 cats and a 5-yr-old, it very well will overwhelm you.
Good luck and God bless!

I don't know what the situation is exactly. Does the parrot need to be adopted now or can it wait until your nephew isn't there anymore? When first reading your question I was going to say if you think you can look after the parrot and afford to feed it then you should but now having read more you sound like you are unsure if you would be able to look after this parrot. If i were you I would decide this way. If the parrot is going to be put down unless you adopt it then you should adopt this parrot but if this parrot can be adopted later when your nephew has gone home or if this parrot will be able to wait to be adopted or bought by someone else then you should either get it later or not at all. I think that it is great that you have given a home to 11 dogs and 5 cats!

I'd bet you're already over your town's legal animal limit. Unless you live on a farm, you're lucky the neighbors haven't called the cops on you yet.
Parrots can live 75 years. Skip the bird (very messy anyway) and spend the extra time with your nephew. He won't be 5 forever, and you can't get this time back down the road when he's bigger.

No, No, No!!!! A parrot requires alot of attention and work. If you do not have 4 hours in a day to devote to your parrot, then he will be suffering living in your home. Plus parrots crave attention and if you spend more time with the other animals it will begin to resent you. Once again, NO...not unless you get rid of mostly all of your other animals.

No. I don't think you should. Animals, especially 16 of them, carry countless bacteria, disease, germs etc that are no good for either you or your nephew. I'm a dog guy, love(d) my Molly (r.i.p), so I'm not an anti-pet person at all. Be careful that not only are you thinking about what pets you want to own, but you have your and your nephews health and well-being as a bigger priority, not only health-wise, but also mentally and financially. You could probably be spending you money wiser than 16 animals, unless you are a farmer or breeder.

I dont like parrots so i say no. On the positive note though, parrots have been known to live to be 95 years old so it mght stil b around when those other animals pass away.

Nope. That parrot will last about a week with 5 cats. Not to mention, not all dogs are happy about smal animals or birds either. Just try to enjoy what you have. (no hard feelings!)

I would forgo the parrot because one of the cats may injure or kill it. It sounds like you are pretty busy with all of your pets.
