I just always start it off with some form of manure that is not packaged and that you have to buy at a store. Find someone that has a farm or something with horses or cattle. If you don't know anyone go to your local farmers market, or some store dealing with agriculture and they can help you. Just take the manure and mix it with your soil when you start and then lightly water it then plant your seeds and the water it as much as needed but don't drown your plants. The plants will be easy to drown at their early stages of life. I just do that and then every once in awhile if I think the garden needs it I will put a little miracle grow on it but not much because it will burn the plants. If I have a problem with bugs or worms I like to you a little seven dust and sprinkle it on the plants leaves and base. I just always do these things because that is what my grandfather taught me and it has always brought me great vegetables every year. Oh yeah if you are growing herbs for seasoning just put the seven dust on the base not on the leaves.
