I like his writing, but I wouldn't go so far to say he has influenced society...

Stephen King's writing tells us that it is okay to go beyond the safe zone that people have been writing in for so long. People love his work, including me, and I don't think that society should shy away from new and interesting stories simply b.c the morals in them aren't the greatest. So what if King's stories are gruesome or very long or sometimes immoral? Take a chance and write something new. Who knows? Maybe someone out there will absolutely love it! In the end, King has tuaght society that writing in a new way, a different way, can bring about a style that is long overdue!

I don't think that he's influenced the American Society through his works. If he has influenced us its been by his success and his gift of storytelling. Plus he's scared the hell out of us since the 70's.

no. King doesn't challenge the reader. it touches its fears and works with the average mentality (the american mentality that is). he goes with the flow.
