Hitler did that you know and most oppressive gov't do.
When they get your guns they have full control. I'm a liberal, but still do not want the gov't to take everyone's gun. Control, yes, but confiscation, no.
Besides, then people who are outside the law will still get them.

The right to bear arms, is a constitutional right. I for one, reserve that right to own firearms and I own several.
The argument I've heard from a lot for the anti-gunners, is that the police will protect you. If you ask any cop, they'll say otherwise.
The police are not proactive to violence, their reactive. I'm not all warm and fuzzy with that, so I'll pack heat thank you very much.
All you have to do, to get an idea how the government will take care of you, is look at hurricane Katrina.
The government told the people, head for the government rally points, don't stay at home, just bring a small bag of personal items and we'll take care of you.
They did, and the government services were overwhelmed, people suffered and some died.
Later on, the government talking heads were quoted, that the reason people suffered so much, is because they expected the government to take care of them. The comment was also given, that if these people had taken the initiative to take care of themselves, there would not have been so much suffering.
Using that as a yardstick, I think I'll take care of myself.

Ban Guns? Ridiculous!
Here are three reasons why not to:
First, if that were to happen than the only people with guns would be criminals. That's why they are called criminals. Do you seriously think that everyone is honest and has a registered gun, and do you think that those who don't will give it up?
Secondly, Guns are like illegal aliens, if you ban them, they will hide. Did you know illegal drugs are banned? Sure you do. But, there are still illegal drugs in the U.S, right?
Third, If you ban guns, than hunting would also have to be banned. There would be an overcrowding of game, more disease, more traffic accidents, and more waterfowl thus more aircraft accidents, and the list goes on.
Banning guns. Not a smart idea.

I can't kill you with a spoon instantly though.
The ignorant arguments for allowing guns do have merit: they can protect you, and instances do exist where this happens. The paranoia of the Americans in their founding years created an atmosphere where citizens literally did not trust government so much they wanted weapons to protect themselves. While less of a threat today, the fact that the population can arm itself does keep the government in check to some degree.
And probably the best ignorant argument: banning guns won't stop them, it would make it easier from criminals to commit crimes using guns as persuasion when they can safely assume the law-abiding population won't have them.

Yeah that worked so well when we banned alcohol. Guns would be available anyways, just harder to get. Banning guns will do nothing to crime rates, most criminals get the guns illegally anyways. There are millions of gun owners who use their guns responsibly and would never let such a ban happen.

Look at Engliand, banned guns, only law abiding obeyed. Like the saying goes, when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. Thats England. Gun crim is up over 300% from preban days as are many other violent crimes. You banners need to THINK for a minute. Better still, go live in England for a few years.

If we give up our guns, how do we defend our rights? If the government decides we don't have the right to free speech anymore and we have no guns, there is nothing we can do about it. If the government decides that we aren't going to have elections anymore, with no guns, what can we do about it?
Our right to own guns is more important than any other right, because it is the ONLY right that lets us protect the rest of them. Giving up guns is an open invitation to slavery.

Medical Doctors in the United States kill more people dues to preventable medical errors (over 100,000 per year) than are killed by the criminal misuse of firearms (approximately 30,000). So statistically I am at least 3 times safer with a gun than I am going to see a doctor.

Simple answer! People are responsible for their own protection! No one else is going to protect you or your familiy. Cops don't stop crimes they get the perp. after the crime has been commited. And besides people will need guns to overthrow an oppressive government in the future!
