Do you buy or rent a massuese, a hair stylist, a manicurist, a maid or a therapist? No, obviously you neither buy nor rent these people. You pay for the service they offer, not the person.

How was this related to the case, or anything else for that matter?
You do not keep the prostitute after you are done, so obviously you are renting.
===edit===
My attorney friend said that you "hire" a prostitute, since you are buying that person's labor, not the person.
Do do not "rent" or "buy" a human being.

You rent the time with the prostitute. You are paying for her services, like you pay a doctor or lawyer or accountant for their services.

You cannot rent or own a person. You are paying her for a service kind of like a plummer.

Hmmm...I think you can rent by the hour, or pay for a particular service, in which case I guess you'd be hiring her for a part-time or temp position (no pun intended).

Unless you live in a state/country/county where it is legal I think it is a moot point either way.
However if you consider it a "service" like you would hire someone to paint your house. If you pay a service person to do a service you don't own them.

I hope this wasn't asked by a judge. I would be more worried about renting, borrowing, catching AIDS.

Rent, because you use her for x amount of time. Some you can get for the night, but most of the time it's just a quickie.

I think you buy her time. It would be like anyone else that provides a service.
