I see a lot of post on here saying how 9/11 was preventable and it was a joke becuase the terrorists used box cutters. That right there is the problem. people believe that something as simple as that cant have such devastating affects. Sometimes when you try to prevent against something you overlook the small things. In your personnal life you can safegaurd against bad things and take the normal steps to prevent it but if someone wants to harm you, it will happen and it isnt until after that you take drastic steps to prevent it again. People have this denial attitude that it wont happen to me and that is what happened on 9/11. We got caught with our pants down and hindsight is 20/20 now isnt it? The only ones to blame are the terrorists that perpetrated the crime not our own government.

Your thoughts?

The building impacts were absolutely preventable although there could have still been some extensive casualties of passengers or flight crews outside of the cockpit.

We had hijackings long before 911 and we effectively did nothing to stop hijackings. You can screen people all you want, they can still to this day get plastic or ceramic knives through a metal detector.

Israel put locks of the cockpit doors for 20 years prior to 911 to prevent the hijackings in the first place let alone running the hijacked plane into a building once they have taken over the controls.

You can't get through a locked metal door with a box cutter or anything else that you could have slipped through security even be for the security changes after 911.

Furthermore, we still have no locks on the cockpits.
So much for even learning from that 20/20 hindsight.

It was negligence then and it is outright criminal now.

Let's face it, you could effectively lock the cockpit with 20 bucks worth of parts from the home depot.

It may not be the most cosmetically clean way to do it, but it would keep a hijacker out of the cockpit.

I think you have captured in a nutshell what most Americans believe. There are very bad people in this world hell-bent on our downfall and they will try any trick, new or old, to accomplish it.
You know, we hail our troops as heroes, as well we should. But there are countless other "silent" heroes who you never hear about and who do not wear uniforms. They are members of the intelligence community who spend countless hours, often tedious and boring and sometimes dangerous, gathering information as best they humanly can in order to thwart any possible future attacks. Sometimes they get it wrong, many times they get it right. There has not been a successful attack on American soil since 911 thanks to these dedicated men and women. My hat is off to them. I consider them to be great American patriots and heroes on a par with our troops!!

You are correct.

The terrorists who perpetrated the crime are Wahhabists from Saudi Arabia.

Unless the Wahhabis are confronted, the US cannot be victorious in the 'War on Terror'

Ignoring them because elite Saudis invest heavily in American corporations and have powerful positioning in OPEC is a losing strategy.

You are the voice of reason. The only other reasoning would be political in nature, meant only to do harm to the reputation of one side or the other, but when it comes down to it, what you say can only be denied by the most bitter of the politically brain washed.

Anyone who overlooks blaming the terrorists and considers our government more evil is just not thinking.

However:
I think we have an obligation to question the methods and policies that helped get us to this place so we don't have to live it all again.

"Blame is like poop and peanut butter. Spread it around and it sticks to everyone."

"To be great at what YOU do, you must be willing to do YOUR portion of the other man's job".

"We must all find, accept and correct our portion of the blame for a bad situation"

Funny how National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell stated that 9-11 could have and should have been prevented.

Kinda like why people buy car and health insurance but don't buckle their safety belts.....
Yeah, we definitely overlook the small things, it's human nature.

Puhleez. I wish you people weren't such hypocrites. Did you take that same apologist attitude with Clinton? NO!!! In fact some of you actually had the audacity to blame HIM even though BUSH ignored the presidential memos that were placed before him ahead of time!

I agree. I also remember how united we were in the months to follow. Sometimes I wish we could go back to then just for that one reason (being united).

I agree. But as you have seen there are some uneducated people on here that think putting down our President is right. Well I believe in what we are doing and believe we are making a difference. Our government is not perfect but neither are those critizing the system. so if change is needed lets change for the good not for a different political party. vote for a person and forget about what party they belong to.
