A friend describes certain events in life like "a salmon swimming upstream". Do you ever struggle against things that weren't meant to be?

Well the salmon swimming upstream was meant to be. If they dont their fishlings (sorry for the term) would die, otherwise they're going upstream would be just to become dinner for the bears. The world will face you with challenges because it's meant to be, to hone you into a better person. If you don't challenge yourself and just let the bear eat you, you haven't conquered yourself at all.

"Que sera sera" - What will will. What won't won't.

Yes... I find it happens a lot in relationships. I know for me personally. I finished school with a Bacholer's degree, and I can't find a job no matter how hard I try and how many interviews I go on. I'm a waitress, and that's a struggle for me because it's not what I want. Everyone has struggles in their lives. I guess the best thing to do is learn from them?

I alwayse swim against the current, sadly this road comes with evil glares and bruises but it reaps it own rewards :) if I want something badly enough I pursue it and I don't stop, if you are in this type of situation then I suggest you weigh the reward vs the consequence of persuing your salmon maiting ground as it were.

All of the time.
I work now at a family owned company that wants to be bigger but does not want to change anything. Can't even get support on safety glasses because they don't want to enforce it.
As a support function manager, most times you were always fighting with very little support. Just hoped that you can get the company in the right place while surviving.

A salmon's journey is its destiny. I think we all struggle with our destiny many times throughout our lives. The right road may not always be an easy one, it doesn't necessarily mean that we shouldn't take that road. Life's lessons are not always easy, but what doesn't kill us will make us stronger.

If it's not health related I don't struggle much. i just go with the current because it just life and it wasn't meant to be taken seriously.

How can something not meant to be? How can something be meant to be? It also depends on what religion you're in for you to answer that.
For me, I'm one of those I-won't-question-this-but-I-will-not-like-it people. If something bad went wrong, I just try to get it over with, with a smile on my face and a good book in my hand. (I'm a bookworm)

Sure. If I solely believe that it was meant for me to have, i'm just gonna fight for it.
