The purpose of the Constitution is to limit the powers of the Federal Government, not State Governments.

As worded, I would have chosen (d).
The Bill of Rights hs nothing to do with the structure of the American Government: that is embodied in the Constitution itself.
The Bill of Rights does not keep "States" from infringing on the freedoms of individuals: The Constitution is a Federal document. Hence, the Constitution protects us from the Federal Govenment.

It's not C because the Bill of Rights was originally for the federal government. Through various additions and Supreme Court decisions SOME parts (not all!) were eventually decided to be applicable to the states.

The correct answer is ntot B, it is D. specifically, A is incorrect because that wasn't in the original proposal. B is NOT correct--the main body of the Constitution setss up the basic structure of the government. C is incorrect because the Bill of rights originally applied only to the federal, not the state governments (That changed with the passage of the 14th ammendment, which in effect, applied the Bill of Rights to the states as well).

Your teacher blew this one. Simple as that. IBut so did you.. Sorry. :)
