If the truth is stretched vertically then YES it is a tall tale.

If the truth is stretched horizontally then the tale is a wide tale.

Any other stretching outside of the regular 90 degree angles would just qualify as a long tale.

Far better to tell and hear the truth as it presents itself - then you can judge it and measure it for what it is worth.

It's just my simple opinion.

If you stretch the truth then it's really an untruth, how ever much it has a basis on a particular truth.
