You have a sum of money coming to you, to claim this money there will be a 25% finders fee. If you agree, there will be a contract to sign, and then after a short period you will recieve your refund.
In the contract it will say that if you do not pay the 25% of the refund, you will be taken to court, and at that time you will be required to pay 50% of the refund.
Would you respond?
Thank you!

This sounds very suspicious to me. If you are due a refund, then all of that money should be yours. There should not be a company acting as a middleman that takes a percentage. If you are curious to see if you have a refund due to you that you don't know about, check the unclaimed property website for the state(s) that you have lived in. Almost all states have them, and it will be an official government website. You can enter your name into their search engine and see if you have some money that they are holding for you. If so, there will be a procedure for you to claim that money directly from the state with NO FEES. Good luck - hope you do have some money out there.

P.S. Throw away the letter, do not respond and do NOT sign a contract..

This sounds like it could be a scam. Also, you should start by trying to find out on your own who owes you this money, so you can claim it directly without paying a fee.

I think this is about an unclaimed deposit that has been turned over a state government. Go on the websites of the states that it might be and claim it yourself. Do not commit to the finder's fee.

Unless I was expecting the refund I would assume it's a scam. Where is this sum of money coming from? Why is someone else getting 25% of MY refund?

Go to your state government website. Find the comptrollers page. Usually, there is a search on there to find unclaimed money.

In Texas the site is:http://www.window.state.tx.us/up/

These people finding money for you are just using sites like these. These sites are free to use. Why pay someone else to look something up that you can look up for free? Check every state that you have lived in. If you cannot find it for your state, tell us what state you live in and maybe we can find it for you.

If nothing shows up then ignore the guy. There are too many scams out there that operate on a basis like this. They promise you money but you have to pay fees or whatever to get it. If they want the money up front, they will just take it and run and you will not hear back from them. If they send you a check and tell you to send them back the fee, then you will later find that the check is bogus and you have to pay all of the money back to the bank. This will include the fee that you paid and cannot get back.

THIS IS A SCAM!

Any company that sends you something saying you won but have to pay them first, IS A SCAM!

Do NOT send any money and take the letter to your local police station so the person can be tracked.

Good luck.

I wouldn't respond - but I don't like the idea of being scammed.
