Fly budget airline.
Cost of travel by train from Madrid to London with trainhotel Francisco de Goya and Eurostar is approx. 180 EUR one-way and takes about 18 hrs.
With a budget airline you can fly from Madrid to London and back within this time for less than that.
See http://www.skyscanner.net for flights.

If you are indifferent to the experience I am almost certain it would be cheaper to fly. Below is an example although the flight is out of Bournemouth it's no doubt cheaper and faster still.
19.99 GBP Tue, 25 Sep 07
Flight FR5433 12:20 Depart Bournemouth (BOH)
15:55 Arrive Madrid (MAD)

I used to fly this route often. It is much quicker and easier to travel by air than by train. It is about a 2 1/2 hour flight and you can find relatively inexpensive flights. I've flown Virgin and British Airways. The train ride is nice if you want to spend time looking at the scenery and have plenty of time to spare.

Madrid-London takes a lot more time by train than it does by air, even including the time it takes to get to and from the airport.
So I would fly this trip.
But check that your airport is easy to reach from the town.
