There are two incisions made for a c-section. The first is to cut you and that is usually made in a smily face in your abdomen. The second is a cut in your uterus which could be up and down or in a smily face.
Pain and healing with cesareans depends on how much energy you already spent during labor. My first child was emergency c-section and I was wiped out from labor by the time my doctor wanted to do it. Due to complications they had to put me to sleep so I wasn't awake during the procedure. But when I woke up (with bright lights and white lab coats I thought I had been abducted by aliens!) the first thing I said was that it hurt and they told me they gave me morphine and I told them it wasn't workin.
When I got out of recovery and got back to my room, I could barely move and getting out of bed just to go pee was like a 20 min thing. You never know what you use your stomach muscles for until they are cut into. You pretty much either sit up or lay down. Trying to lay on your side is nearly impossible and if you do succeed you wish you hadn't because it's so uncomfortable. I went about a week walking like a hunchback and another month before I didn't feel any pain anymore. Then another 1-2 months before I could lay on my stomach. It was worth it though.
However, my second baby was a planned c-section. I was able to stay awake during that one and my husband actually got some good (disgusting to others) pictures of the baby during the surgery. They strap your arms down because they don't want you 'helping'. I didn't feel a thing. They had given me a spinal block so 24 hours after I didn't feel a thing. When it finally wore off, I was hurting but I noticed a Huge difference in the pain because I had all my energy. I healed much faster and the day after I got home I even vacuumed. I felt sore but like my old self in a couple of weeks.

I had my son 3 years ago, the incision is about 5 inches long (and he was a 9 1/2 lb baby) and 1/2 inch thick. It's right along the top of the hairline, which is ok because no (nice) bathing suit is that tiny. I did have a small infection on the scar a few days after giving birth, but it went away with antibiotics. It was red for a few months, then pink for a year, and now it's a faded pale pale silvery-pinkish.
I'll gladly have another C-section rather than push out a kid that big!

It isn't that bad, I have had both of my children by c-section and I wouldn't have it any other way. I have the bikini cut....right above your hair line so that when you put on a bathing suit.....even a bikini, you can't see the scar. It doesn't hurt either if you get pregnant again..at least mine did not..
I guess it would depend on the person and situation. I was up and moving around the same nite I had my surgery and by the third day, I went home..Yes it is a little tender and sore but not excrutiating!!!! For me it was better for the baby because they both had perfectly round heads.....That is just my opinion!! but I would definitely prefer it.. My Aunt has worked in a hospital now for about 30 years. She even said that the majority of women come in requesting a c-section... It is less painful , but that is different for each individual. It takes no time at all to heal, as long as you do what you are told.......good luck and congrats!!!!!

I had two emergency c/sections. Keep in mind that the uterine incision might be different from the outer belly one. :) My uterine, both times, were bikini cut. The one you are asking about, the outer one... well, with my son, it's vertical, probably about 5 in, going up from the pubic area towards my belly button. With my daughter, it was bikini cut, in the pubic area, not sure of how long. The kids are 8 and 5 now, so they faded quite a bit, though not 100%.
As for the staples being removed, it's not painful, all you feel is a bit of a pinching sensation, not at all horrible. :)

I can't speak for myself, but my mother (had 3 c-sections) has one about 6-8inches long, her scar is covered up by her underwear/swim wear/etc so the only way anyone could see it is if she actually showed them. Her scar is really dark and very visible, but they also cut on the same spot everytime for my siblings and myself, which may contribute to why its like that.
From what I've gathered from other family members, all of theirs are out of sight as well unless they show you. My aunt who only had one child has a much smaller and light one that isn't too bad at all.
So I think it varies from person to person, how your body heals, etc
Also, for pain, when I was born (the first) they'd put tape over her staples and my mother is allergic to tape/latex so she of course had a reaction and it was extremely painful for her when the staples and tape were removed. She said the other times (for my siblings) were no problem, so long as she wasn't look. Just like getting stitches out she said, which doesn't hurt at all.
But again, it will vary from person to person and your threshold for pain.

its about 3-5 inches long (depends on how big the baby is) and it made on you bikini like or where you stomach turns into your pubic area. as far as the healing, its major abdominal surgery and it take about 2 weeks for the dr to take out the staples and then there is about 4 weeks after that.

well, when i was pregnant (my first baby by the way), they didnt know what kind of birth i was going to have ..... so i ended up haveing an emrgency c- section because my baby flipped at last minute....... so they took me to a room where only one person could be in there with me..... they give you an epidural if you dont already have it to numb your body from the waest down ..... you wont feel a thing i had mine where i was still aware of wat aws going on around me....... they make a cut that is like 5" really, really low on your belly right above your pelvic area...... they stich you i got 15 stiches and they cover the cut so it wont get infected...... the surgery is not bad, recovery is the hard part it takes like two weeks for the pain to go away, but for th e cut cut to actually heal from the outside it takes like three months on the inside it takes way longer .......at first it looks very swollen and red but with time it starts to blend in to your skin color and it kinda shrinks in size too. so it looks like a scratch going across ......

I knew one girl who had a simple scar going laterally across her lower abdomen the bikini line. But another girl I dated for a while must have had hers done at a butcher shop and had a horrible scar from her naval down to the hair line. Just talk to the Doc before and ask. I think that most today will be as considerate as possible with the results.

When I had mine, they glued me back instead of stapled. The incision is right above the pubic bone and is maybe 5 inches long if that. After two years, you do not even notice it at all. In my case, it heal quickly.

Mine is probably about 8 eight inches across right below my tummy. I can still feel the bumps there and once in a while it tingles. I don't think it will ever go completely away. And I've heard that it will hurt when you get pregnant again.
