They blink VERY fast. It's a survival mechanism. The hamster in the wild that blinks the slowest quickly becomes a meal for the local predators.

They can blink with each eye independently.

They do. But like cats and other animals, their eyes don't dry up as quickly as humans' eyes. Therefore they blink less often.
