Want some basic instructions on how to install soffit and fascia?

Its for my storage shed. Its approximately 6 ft. front to back by 12 ft. wide. Only need it for front and back side. Roof is sloped down from back to front. Roof overhangs about 6 inches. I was thinking of useing vinyl instead of aluminum. Later on i may intall siding as well. Any suggestions or help i would appreciate. Thanx.

Steven is right? It makes sense to find out if you really have a good reason for soffit. The only good reason would be open spaces between the rafters to allow your attic to breathe. I do like vinyl, the one with million pin holes in it. Easy to install, just some J or F channels will do it. Plus it does look good and if you have any areas that maybe have some old paint pealing or something like that it covers it very nicely reducing the amount of work you need to do. Fascia is also a great idea in aluminum. No rust no painting, NICE. If you have or can rent a break your install will go very easy but it does take a bit of skill and some expedience to make sure your boxes are done right so no water will enter in. Plus if you do the fascia right you will need one less J or F channel to hang your sofitt. Good luck with your project

With all due respect I have a few questions.

Is there a real NEED to add soffit? Is the roof supported by rafters that breach the headers, causing an open area above the walls? If there are rafters does the roof line extend beyond the ends of the rafters? Are the rafters cut parrallel with the walls? Vinyl is fine if you NEED it. I like one that is called NO-ROT and it's made in so many variations from plank to molding, to door frame /brick/block molding.

Certainly if your roofing does not overhang and exposed rafters, then facia seems a bit of a waste as well, unless you also plan guttering for the shed.

What is the "fabric" of the structure? Is it sealed at all? It is a shed, and even if a decent workshop/storage area, off ground level, and made with exterior grade materials, you may not need what you're considering?

Just curious.

If it was mine, I'd probably focus on sealing and siding first.
