If you look in the suburbs surrounding NYC, or in other burroughs beside Manhattan, you can get a nice 1 bedroom apartment for $1,000-$1,200. In Manhattan, you will wind up paying $1,500-$2,000 for a crappy studio (maybe 1 br) the size of a shoebox somewhere in a basement. Unless you live in Harlem or Hell's Kitchen, which aren't the best neighborhoods. However, even they're not that cheap. My friend pays $1,500 for a ROOM in a 5-bedroom apartment with 4 other people in Hell's Kitchen.

That is a very broad question. It depends on the area of the city. The apartment complex where I live, the rent starts at $2,000 plus or minus for a one bedroom and about $3,000 +/- for a two bedroom apartment. Rent price includes: Electricity and Gas.

This information is from "The Real Deal," a NYC publication for the New York Real Estate market.

You can buy a condo for about $740.000.00 in many areas of the city, yes, that is$740,000 for a two bedroom Condominium (condo).

It depends...in Manhattan for a one bedroom or studio...the cheapest you could probably find is about $1700 a month. Many are easily over $2000.

If you look in the other boroughs such as Brooklyn or the Bronx you can find better deals.

Just browse through www.craigslist.com to get an idea of what people are renting there places out for.

Aside from the huge increase in rent, the cost of living in New York City is extremely high.

If you mean Manhattan than you're looking at a hefty sum of cash. If you go with the other boroughs you can probably get cheaper. Try Google, maybe search apartment rates in NYC or something.

I manage several white glove luxury buildings which include dry cleaning, parking, roof top pool and gym services. The average 1 bedroom about 600 square feet is about $4000 bc of the building ammenities. $2500 would be average for a walk up building (no elevator) and no ammenities.
