my fiancee is out of town and I decided I needed to clean things up around the house before she got back. I took all the dirty dishes and put them into the washing machine, and set it to gentle, but it still broke everything in there! What did I do wrong? How do I explain the broken dishes? 2 of the plates in there were china from her grandma.

Dishes need to be washed in the "dishwasher" which can be found in the "kitchen" - the "washing machine" needs to be used for clothing. Now however you have little pieces of broken dishes in the Washing machine so you cannot wash the clothes until you get the glass out or your clothing will be very "uncomfortable"
You need to vaccum all the glass/ceramic out of that washing machine then run a cycle or 2 with nothing in it to get the pieces that slipped into the hoses etc... out.
You will have to run down to Macys and get new china for her. (or Target or Walmart) Here is a website the specilizes in discontinued patterns (to replace grandma's if you cannot glue it back together.)

Here is the FTD website - I suggest you have flowers ready and waiting to numb the shock when she looks in the cupboard and finds only dixie cups!

You need to read the tags to know what water temperature to use. Normally darks are cold, lights are warm and whites are hot water. I just use tide liquid detergent and snuggle fabric softener and my clothes smell fresh. You can also use dryer sheets which smell nice and keep clothes soft. I like the lavendar sense. When ironing read the tags again. Cottons and linens you can use it very hot but some other materials will tell you to use a warm iron. Too much heat could damage fabrics. Clorox keeps whites white and the have a clorox for colors too. If you get any yellowing on your shirts from sweat they have a product called yellow out in the laundry section of stores. Hope some of this helps. Good luck.

Dishes don't do into the washing machine, ever. Even on the gentle cycle, which isn't really that gentle.

All you can do is tell her the truth and apologize. Hey, she might not let you do dishes ever again, which could be a good thing!

Well, Uncle Ant you are in deep bandini. Get out the wet/dry vac and start sucking out the broken ceramic, get out the glue and start putting that jigsaw puzzel of china back together, or hang your head in shame, pack your bags...LOL

I'm not sure if your kidding or not because my brother once tried to feed my garbage disposal a soup can. He thought it got rid of all trash. if you did, you've got a mess to clean up.
