Because Democratic ideals are based on facts, and those smart enough to study facts are also smart enough to write novels. There was recently an research article I saw on the net talking about the Intelligence difference between conservatives and liberals. I think this comes into play as well.

They live in a paper world were what they write down happens without flaw. It is when you get involved in the real world that your ideas fail or people will just outright not like them and sabotage your efforts. A lot of things work on paper but fail when put into practice and that is why they are idealist. Never seen a demographic report on political affiliation but it seems the dems have become the we stand for everything party so they won't get too much resistance to their ideas there.
